Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan nom de plume Karuna Amman, who was Special Commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the eastern Sri Lankan regions of Batticaloa and Ampara, says that the crack in the middle of him and LTTE Supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran occurred in December 2002 when the Tiger Chieftain blamed him for "double-crossing" of the kind Mahendrarajah false name Mahatthya was blamed for in the mid 1990s and executed.
Prabhakaran was angry with Karuna for convincing his Chief Negotiator, Anton Balasingham, to sign the December 5, 2002 "Oslo Declaration" which had conferred the LTTE to "investigating the likelihood of discovering a political arrangement taking into account a government structure inside of a united Sri Lanka."
At a stormy LTTE Central Committee meeting at Kilinochchi later in December, Karuna claimed that he influenced a hesitant Balasingham to acknowledge the Norwegian Government's draft presentation while different individuals from the LTTE assignment were either reserved or proposed interview with Prabhakaran before marking. Shielding his activity, Karuna said that he upheld the marking of the Declaration just to "spare the LTTE from separation" in the worldwide group which had ended up unfriendly to furnished developments taking after the 9/11/2001 terrorist assault in New York.
"Prabhakaran was a decent man, yet he had no information of globalization," Karuna told Express.
"At the exceptional Central Committee meeting at Kilinochchi, Prabhakaran tore a duplicate of the Oslo Declaration to bits and blamed me for offering out the battle for Tamil Eelam. I attempted to disclose to him that the Declaration had just said that the two sides would investigate a government arrangement, not acknowledge it. The LTTE could simply stop the discussions if these were unacceptable, I submitted. Be that as it may, my contentions failed to receive any notice."
"Then again, the genuine sting was in Prabhakaran's charge that I had double-crossed him as Mahatthya (his Deputy) did prior. This hurt me profoundly, in light of the fact that not at all like Mahatthya, why should arranging slaughter Prabhakaran, I was just attempting to spare him and the LTTE," Karuna said.
Detecting inconvenience, Karuna asked the European truce screens to earnestly send a helicopter to fly him to his base in Batticaloa. "Once in Batticaloa, I declined to answer summons to come to Kilinochchi, knowing very well indeed what might happen in the event that I did."
