Indian Traders Worry On Over-reliance On Colombo As Maersk Line Shuts Service To Chennai

"Re-directing the compartments through Colombo, Salalah or Singapore will prompt additional time and expenses for sending or getting freight," said A.V. Vijayakumar, a Chennai-based traditions house operators.

"Overdependence on Colombo is going to hurt us over the long haul. Indeed, even today, 60% of India's compartments are dispatched to destinations through Colombo," FIEO's Unnikrishnan said.

Saju Chacko, overseeing chief at Chennai-based Caravel Logistics Pvt. Ltd, said that bearers were rebuilding the supply side with an end goal to prop-up rates that have dropped definitely.
